Stop One Save One is a student-led bullying prevention organization at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The organization aims to prevent bullying and harassment by promoting kindness and acceptance of peers. Through campaigns and activities to increase school unity, the organization can make AHS a safer and more enjoyable environment for all students.

The Stop One Save One Committee has the backing of school administration and Safe Schools Healthy Students.

"Well, I like to think that, despite what seems to be an opinion held by many people at our school, Stop One Save One, unfortunately, is not a league of justice with a team of superheroes that run around sensing all bullying and stopping it. “Stop One Save One” is a mission statement of sorts, but more than that, it’s a call to action, not just for people in the group, but for everyone. I mean the reason why bullying is bad is because it can cause so much pain and hatred, things which nobody deserves, regardless of who they are or what they’ve done. We don’t want to punish bullies, we don’t want to spend our time trying to hunt down people who post anonymous mean things on twitter. I think that Stop One Save One is as crucially about standing up directly to bullying as it is about reaching out to people who need support, and spreading a general atmosphere of kindness and acceptance. Everyone has moments of weakness, and everyone needs a hand sometimes. People who are bullied, people who are just going through a rough time, and even, and sometimes especially, people who make the choice to “bully” others, all might find great help in a friend or even just a person to talk to. As co-occupants of planet Earth, it is our responsibility to stand up for one another, and help one another stand up. I’ve heard before that humans are greedy and selfish and solitary creatures but I don’t think that’s true. I can’t possibly believe that it is true after seeing just how kind and compassionate people can work together to be. People know bullying is bad. People know how to sit on twitter and see bullying and point at it and call for Stop One Save One to come help. We need to convince people that they can do more than that, we need to promote strength in times when it’s difficult to be strong, and we need to encourage hospitality and compassion among everyone. High school is an often weird and often difficult experience, kinda like life, and a small gesture or action can go a long way in helping someone out."
